US Navy lands in Erie with a bang
The U.S. Navy will land at Liberty Park with horns, not weapons.
The 35-member U.S. Navy Band Northeast will perform a free concert Friday at 7 p.m., presented by Perry 200. It’s the unit’s first Erie performance since 1995.
“They’re practically impossible to get,” said Caleb M. Fifer, the director of marketing and development for the Flagship Niagara League. “When I say impossible, it took close to an act of Congress to get them here.”
Led by Lt. Scott Mythen, the U.S. Navy Band will play patriotic fare — “Anchors Aweigh,” “The Star Spangled Banner.”
The 90-minute show will close with a bang. The U.S. Brig Niagara will maneuver by Liberty Park for the band’s finale and fire its cannon.
Sponsors include Lord Corp., Penn State Behrend, GE Transportation, General Electric Credit Union, Flagship Niagara League, Erie Water Works and Navy Operational Support Center Erie.
