Fires halt PCS, TDY moves to Air Force Academy
The continuing threat from a nearby Colorado wildfire has forced Air Force officials to temporarily halt permanent change-of-station moves and most temporary duty assignment to the Air Force Academy, the service announced Thursday.
The stop-movement order was initiated by 10th Air Base Commander Col. Thomas L. Gibson on Thursday and is effective at least through Sunday. The order affects more than 200 military members, Air Force Personnel Center assignment advisor Cristi Bowes said in a press release.

The fire at Waldo Canyon has effectively shut down all but essential operations at the academy and forced it to cancel many activities. The order, however, does not affect the 1,045 cadets who were to be in-processed on Thursday.
Here’s the breakdown of restrictions, according to Bowes:
? Stateside airmen, who have out-processed but not departed their current duty station, must not depart or proceed to the Air Force Academy.
? Airmen based abroad, who have a June or July return date, but have not departed their duty station, have two options. They can take leave at a location outside the stop-movement area or stay put and wait for further guidance.
Bowes said in the release that for those airmen who take leave, if the stop-movement order is still in place when the leave ends, airmen will not be able to sign in to the academy and any additional leave they have to take will be charged to their account.
For those airmen who choose to stay put at their international duty station, return from overseas extension requests will be considered and some airmen may be authorized additional temporary lodging allowances.
? Airmen, including technical school graduates, who have left their permanent duty station will not be allowed to proceed to the academy. They should expect to hear from an Air Force official at their former duty assignment as to what to do next.
? Air Force civilians are also affected by the order; for further guidance they should contact afpc.dpiec.af.programs.oversight@us.af.mil.
For more information about the order, airmen are encouraged to visit the myPers Website at https://mypers.af.mil. Select “search all components,” and enter “stop movement” in the search box, according to the press release.
All airmen assigned to the academy and the area affected by wildfires also must log in to the Air Force Personnel Accountability and Assessment System to ensure that they and their family members are accounted for.
