Fatal Boating Accident Under Investigation in Accomack County

TANGIER ISLAND, Va.- The Virginia Marine Resources Commission is investigating a fatal boating accident that occurred off the coast of Tangier Island Friday night.

According to the United States Coast Guard Sector Baltimore, a 37-year-old male called at approximately 10:15 p.m. Friday to report he had hit a day beacon. USCG officials say the man also reported he and another man on board had sustained injuries.

According to the Coast Guard, the caller was able to bring the boat to a marina on Tangier Island. Officials tell WBOC emergency responders from Accomack County arrived on scene and aided the caller. The USCG Sector Baltimore said crews performed CPR on the other male, who was non-responsive.

The non-responsive male was pronounced dead.
