Coast Guard open house set for May 12
The Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet will hold its annual open house Saturday, May 12, to kick off National Safe Boating Week, which is May 19-25.
The free event is a great place for boaters to learn more about equipment and procedures that can keep them and their passengers safe on the water — and to learn more about what the Coast Guard does.
Live sea creatures in a touch tank, environmental exhibits, narcotics dogs at work, U.S. Customs go-fast boats and a kids robot patrol boat will be at the Coast Guard station during the open house.
For youths looking at careers and higher education opportunities, the Coast Guard and the Coast Guard Academy (New London, Conn.) will be recruiting.
Hours are 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Coast Guard Station at 3300 Lake Shore Drive in Riviera Beach.
To get there from Interstate 95, take Blue Heron Boulevard east to Broadway (U.S. 1) and drive north to the Goodwill store. Turn right, or east, and drive one block to the Coast Guard station on Lake Shore Drive.
For more information, call the Coast Guard station at 844-4470.
The Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce will host a similar open house on May 19. For information about the Fort Pierce open house, call (772) 464-6100.
