Coast Guard medevacs man from cruise ship

TAMPA BAY, Fla. — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 57-year-old man off of the cruise ship Carnival Fantasy, 160-miles southwest of Marco Island., Monday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg received notification at approximately 9 a.m., from a crewmember aboard the cruise ship Carnival Legend that a passenger was experiencing respiratory failure and needed medical attention.

Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater dispatched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter rescue crew to the scene.

 Once on scene, at approximately 12:30 a.m., the helicopter crew was able to safely hoist the man along with his wife and transport them to Tampa General Hospital at 1:45 p.m.
