CENSECFOR Sailor Attends Returning Warrior Workshop
Denver, Colo. (NNS) — The Center for Security Forces (CENSECFOR) 2011 Sailor of the Year attended the Returning Warrior Workshop, held May 4-6, after returning from an overseas individual augmentee assignment.
Master-at-Arms 1st Class Robert Curtin had the opportunity to talk with both active and Reserve Sailors and their families.
“It was a great weekend and I was happy to share my story and hear of so many like mine,” said Curtin.
The workshop is designed to honor both service members and their families for the sacrifices endured during the service member’s deployment.
Attendees are encouraged to share in their experiences of both good and bad, which serve to better prepare others in the mobilization and demobilization deployment process.
“Although my scars were on the outside, lots of Warriors had scars on the inside, and this workshop allowed me to share my story and realize I wasn’t alone,” said Curtin.
Fleet Forces Command paid all expenses to send Curtin and his wife to the three-day event in order to help with the process for returning back from his deployment.
The weekend was filled with informative workshops designed around supporting the service member and his or her family. Workshops included Code of the Warrior, Improving the Process and Operation Stress.
The highlight of the event was the Banquet of Honor, where all Warriors and their guests are recognized for their outstanding efforts in support of the mission.
“I highly recommend that all returning Warriors and their families who have the opportunity to, attend this workshop” said Curtin.
“The event will introduce them to other families, who shared the same experiences they had moreover, create bonds that will remain with them forever.”
The Center for Security Forces provides specialized training to more than 22,000 students each year and has 14 training sites located in the U.S. and around the world.
