SUBJ: 2010 ARMED FORCES RECREATION AWARDS

1. AS A FOLLOW UP TO REF A, THE ARMED FORCES RECREATION (AFR) JOINT
SERVICES COMMITTTEE RECENTLY ANNOUNCED ITS 2010 AWARD RECIPIENTS.
COAST GUARD RECIPIENTS ARE:
A. MR. ARTHUR BORS, GREENS MANAGER OF THE BEAR VALLEY GOLF COURSE AT
PSSU KODIAK, IS A RECIPIENT OF THE SUPPORT SERVICES-BEHIND THE SCENES
AWARD. THIS AWARD RECOGNIZES THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO WORK BEHIND THE
SCENES IN ARMED FORCES RECREATION, YET ARE VITAL TO THE SUCCESSFUL
DELIVERY OF RECREATION PROGRAMS AND SERVICES. MR. BORS WAS
INSTRUMENTAL IN BRINGING THE GOLF COURSE BACK TO LIFE AFTER A ROCK
SLIDE COVERED NEARLY HALF OF THE COURSE.
B. LT GARRETT SANTOS, MWR DIVISION OFFICER AT AIRSTA MIAMI, IS A
RECIPIENT OF THE SPECIAL CITATION AWARD. THIS AWARD RECOGNIZES
INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE SIGNIFICANTLY CONTRIBUTED TO THE FIELD OF ARMED
FORCES RECREATION AT THEIR UNIT. LT SANTOS QUICKLY BALANCED HIS
DUTIES AS A PILOT AND MWR DIVISION OFFICER, SEEKING EVERY OPPORTUNITY
TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THOSE STATIONED AT AIRSTA MIAMI.
C. MS. SILVIA ARMSTRONG, OPERATIONS ASSISTANT AT TRACEN YORKTOWN, IS
A RECIPIENT OF THE SPECIAL CITATION AWARD. MS. ARMSTRONG WAS A
POSITIVE ROLE MODEL FOR COLLEAGUES AND STUDENTS THROUGH HER WORK
ETHIC, POSITIVE ATTITUDE, AND SUPERIOR LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT
SKILLS AS MANAGER OF THE TRACEN YORKTOWN CYBER CAFE.
2. COMPETITION WAS KEEN IN ALL AFR AWARD CATEGORIES. ALTHOUGH NOT
SELECTED AS AWARD RECIPIENTS, THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE NOMINATED BY
THEIR COMMANDS FOR AFR AWARDS:
A. MR. CARL BLAIN, AUTO HOBBY SHOP MANAGER AT PSSU KODIAK, WAS
NOMINATED FOR THE FRONT LINE AWARD.
B. LT JOHN WALTERS, TOWNSEND INLET RECREATIONAL FACILITY OFFICER AT
AIRSTA ATLANTIC CITY, WAS NOMINATED FOR THE SPECIAL CITATION AWARD.
C. CWO RANDALL LITKA, MWR SECTION CHIEF AT TRACEN YORKTOWN, WAS
NOMINATED FOR THE FELLOW AWARD.
D. MR. ANTONIO JONES, LIBERTY LOUNGE II MANAGER AT TRACEN YORKTOWN,
WAS NOMINATED FOR THE JOHN (PAT) HARDEN PRACTITIONER AWARD.
E. MS. CHERYL PRUITT, RECREATION ASSISTANT AT TRACEN YORKTOWN, WAS
NOMINATED FOR THE FRONT LINE AWARD.
F. MR. CHESTER FOSTER, OPERATIONS ASSISTANT AT TRACEN YORKTOWN, WAS
NOMINATED FOR THE SPECIAL CITATION AWARD.
3. ALL NOMINEES, AND THE COMMANDS THAT TOOK THE TIME TO NOMINATE
THEM, SHOULD TAKE PRIDE IN THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE MWR PROGRAMS AT
THEIR COMMANDS AND THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO MISSION READINESS AND
RETENTION.
4. AWARD RECIPIENTS ARE SCHEDULED TO BE PRESENTED THEIR AWARDS ON
25OCT10 DURING THE AFR AWARDS CEREMONY TO BE HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH
THE NRPA ANNUAL CONGRESS IN MINNEAPOLIS, MN. REGISTRATION
INFORMATION MAY BE FOUND AT WWW.USCG.MIL/MWR/HQREC/MWRTRAINING.ASP OR
BY CONTACTING MR. ROBERT DAVIS AT ROBERT.L.DAVIS(AT)USCG.MIL.
