SUBJ: OPM 2010 EMPLOYEE VIEWPOINT SURVEY
1. THIS MESSAGE PROVIDES CURRENT INFORMATION ABOUT RESPONSE RATES
AND ENCOURAGES FULL PARTICIPATION BY EMPLOYEES WHO WERE RANDOMLY
SELECTED TO TAKE THE SURVEY.
2. THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITYS (DHS) CHIEF HUMAN CAPITAL
OFFICER (CHCO) INFORMED COMPONENT HEADS OF A RELATIVELY LOW DHS
WIDE EMPLOYEE VIEWPOINT SURVEY RESPONSE RATE 31.6 PERCENT, AS OF 16
MARCH 2010. THE COAST GUARDS RESPONSE RATE OF 38.1 PERCENT, WHILE
HIGHER AND AMONG THE TOP FOUR RESPONSE RATES IN THE DEPARTMENT,
REFLECTS PARTICIPATION BY SLIGHTLY MORE THAN ONE THIRD OF THE
RANDOMLY SELECTED RESPONDENTS.
3. RADM HEWITT, ASSISTANT COMMANDANT FOR HUMAN RESOURCES, HAS AN
INTEREST IN ENSURING THAT COAST GUARD EMPLOYEES SELECTED TO TAKE
THE SURVEY RESPOND SO THAT THEIR VALUABLE COMMENTS AND INPUTS ARE
NOT MISSED BY OPM AS IT GATHERS AND ANALYZES THE SURVEY RESULTS.
OPM USES THIS INFORMATION TO MEASURE EMPLOYEE PERCEPTIONS OF
WHETHER AND TO WHAT EXTENT CONDITIONS THAT CHARACTERIZE SUCCESSFUL
ORGANIZATIONS ARE PRESENT IN THEIR RESPECTIVE AGENCIES AND TO
MEASURE WORK CLIMATE AND HUMAN RESOURCES PRACTICES GOVERNMENT WIDE.
4. RANDOMLY SELECTED EMPLOYEES ARE REMINDED, WEEKLY, VIA E-MAIL, OF
THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE THE SURVEY AND ARE ENCOURAGED TO DO SO.
5. PLEASE KNOW THAT YOUR OPINION COUNTS, AND I URGE YOU TO TAKE THE
TIME TO TAKE THE SURVEY. I WISH TO THANK ALL EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE
ALREADY TAKEN THE SURVEY. YOUR RESPONSES WILL BE A PART OF DATA
GATHERED THAT WILL BE USED TO MAKE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT A BETTER
PLACE TO WORK.
6. RELEASED BY CYNTHIA NELSON-POSSINGER, CHIEF, OFFICE OF CIVILIAN
PERSONNEL.
7. INTERNET RELEASE AUTHORIZED.
